In response to noodle.Lets see, the supra has a 3 liter 6 cylinder engine with 2 turbos. The mustang has a 5.8 liter v8 engine. Do you actually believe that the 5.8 liter engine with the same 2 turbos will have less output than the 3 liter engine? Not in this universe.

The stock Mustangs from 1996 till present came with a 4.6 Liter 295 horspower engine. While the Supra from 1993 to 1998 had a 3.0 Liter twin turbo 320 horsepower engine. So if we are talking about stock vehicles than the supra has the better chance, not only because of the horsepower, because of the aerodynamics. The gear ratio also comes into play. Dont get me wromg, you can make a Mustang just as fast. But they were not made for the same thing. So basicly what im saying is you are comparing apples to oranges.

first off the 96 to present cars didn’t have 295hp the 99-04 gt’s had 260 the 99 and 01 cobra’s had 320 the 03-04 mach 1’s had and underrated 305 and the 03-04 cobra’s had an underrated 390. Finaly the 05 and up gt’s have 300hp with the gt500 sporting 500hp So to answer your question a supra would beat the 99-04 gt would be very even with the mach 1,99-01 cobra and 05 and up gt’s. However the 03-04 cobra and GT500 would kill a supra.

I am the proud owner of a 04 Cobra Mustang I have crushed 3 Toyota Supras in street races and a bunch of other tuners, all this in stock trim. I recently replaced the stock Eaton Blower with a Kenny Bell Blower and NOS making about 700hp so I say bring on your tuners.

the mustang has a 351W (windsor) engine. This engine did come in some mustangs. Windsor was the plant the engines where produced @. They arent really that fast. A stock TT surpa now goes for $40k, you can buy a 10 second mustang for $15k or a 600whp one for $10-15k ….. There is always something faster….. I like mustangs and i like supras. It doesnt matter. Still, the fastest street legal car in america is a turbo mustang…..

Toyota supras are a good match up for a mustang.I love mustang to heart, but it all depends on the driver.If the driver know his mustang and gear configurations the mustang will pull off ahed of the supra and the supra will not catch it. A 1999 Cobra SVT v8 w/ram air scoop dual 4″ exhuast(borla)fiberglass hood,trunk,bumbers;turbo and headers put out a whopping 890hp, and 1200bhb, clearly beat the supra puting out 680hp 990bhb by 4 car lengths. lets just say, my uncle knew his stang. by the way the supra had and used his nos, but could not catch him!!!!

What are people a talking about on here the mustang can only rev to 6,000 rpms that’s funny because my 03 Mach 1 redlines at 7,000 Grand. It also weighs less than a TT supra and gets better fuel economy and runs a few tenths fast in the 1/4.

Ok cut the shit A 99-04 Mustang gt does have aout 260hp at the rear wheels and 302 ft lbs of torque ITS NOT ABOUT HP IN A DRAG RACE IS THE TORQUE THAT LAUNCHES THE CAR so the more torque the power pull and speed a 302ft lbs torque against the supras 315 is not fair bid however that wasnt a stock supra either stock turbo supra dont sound that healthy and beefed yes when it comes to same mods the supra has a chance but until we try it we never know !!!

I Have had a roush 427R and the only thing ive done to it are added a cam heads and a bigger blow off valve for the supercharger it ran upper 11’s – mid 12’s out of the show room floor on 91 octane now its running low to mid 11’s on 91 and pushing 476hp and 482ft lbs torque if i were to add a bigger supercharger id have an easy low to mid 10’s car supra went out of production and mustang is running strong you pit a 1000hp roush against a 1000 hp supra the roush will win and besides its not just the car its the driver and how well timed the shifts are its always good to do 3 to 5 runs unless your just ass stomped on the first too how ever ive raced everything from twin turbo preludes to mustang gt’s to 04 kb Cobra’s porsche corvettes a roush 427 out of the factory will keep up with a new 07 corvette not a z06 but a regular 400hp so either way but stock vs stock 97 vs 97 supra vs mustang the supra wins 97 vs 07 the mustang kills it stock even if it has some mods even tho it took 10 years amercan cars are about Power and style in japan the supra was a super car at around 42,000+ i paid that much for my Roush and its far froma super car!!! supra is a japanese super car while mustang is a MIDDLE AMERICANS SPORTS CAR theres a difference!

Well, there are different levels of stock. You have a stock Mustang GT that puts out 300HP. Then the next level up is the Mustang COBRA or the Mustang COBRA-R. The Supra happens to fall into a dangerous class of cars when talking about newer model vehicles. With the Supras 320hp it lands in comp with the COBRAS. Which is remarkable indeed. But as far as how it stands up against that kind of competition AT A STOCK LEVEL is not so great..lol.

Modern vehicles have put the Supra back up on the shelf to be remodelled and revammped, yet again.

For the price range though, I would NEVER buy a foreign 6 Cyl. car that costs 40-60thousand dollars. I don’t care how fast it goes with 80thou EXTRA under the hood.

The supra is in NO WAY cost effective. It’s actually a waste. Ineffecient.

So Supras finest would be an Inline 6 twin turbo. Some kid I met at a show, he’s got a Mazdaspeed3. I like imports.. but a Mazda3? Anyways, this car runs HIGH13s, and I heard it can run low 13s or even 12s stock.. which costs almost 25k LESS than your Shelby Stand, and runs almost 2/3s less horsepower.

I’m not gonna’ say if a stock stang or supra would win. It’s a close fuggin’ call, and I think either one could have it in a 1/4th, depending if one fuks up a shift or not..

Alright fellas, you guys are harsh on the Supra. First off. A real nice Supra costs around 19k, if you pay 40k your getting one with 700+ hp. Next, you can do more with the Supra’s 2JZ GTE engine block than with a Mustang. You can push past 1000rwhp with the same block and amazing Getrag transmission. That tranny and engine is much much better in quality than the Mustang’s V8 or V6. You only need a few upgrades to push a Supra over 500 hp. A upgraded tubro, ECU, turbo boost controller, take away the catbacks and catalytic converter and BOOM! a simple Mustang killer. If you wanna push further it doesn’t take much. Rethink the cost to cost and a Supra will be cheaper. If you put those simple upgrades into the Supra you’ll push your cost up to 30k total. If you wanna put another 10k into it then the Supra will hit 1000rwhp. Let a Roush, Saleen, Ford POS, or whatever mustang you want race it with 40k into it. Sad to say for AMerica, but the Supra will when. I’m a chevy and my Uncle runs a small block on a drag rail and I’ve seen Supras in the 1/4 waste it. There is a Supra out there with 1600hp and a 7.71 1/4. THis is with the same damn engine block; let me see a mustang do that. Overall a Supra has more workablility. well, the one major flaw in this entire argument is this.
the model year.
In order for us to compare a mustang and a supra we first need to make sure that they are produced in the same year.
lets go ‘98.
Toyota Supra MKIV: according to the manual, its pushin 320 out of a TT 3.0 litre straight 6
Ford Mustang:according to the manual, its pushin 225.
Supra came with a 6 speed, Mustang, a 5 speed.
If we are going stock to stock, year to year, the supra will win.

I’m a fan of both mustangs and supras, and the owner of a 95 mustang gt. Its true that a stock supra will out perform a stock gt, however you have to look at the fact that this is Japan’s supercar, and America’s mid-classed car… sad for Japan. Then when you compare price to performance, it gets ridiculous. For thousands less you can have nearly the same performance from the mustang, with money left over for plenty of mods, which would then just kill the supra. I only paid $8000 for my mustang 10yrs ago. Have since put about $2000 worth of bolt-ons that brought it to 375rwhp and 400ft/lbs of torque. Try doing that with a supra for the same price and without tuning. And I’ve had no problem smoking any of the supra’s I’ve came across. When it comes down to it… Its all personal preference. They are both great cars, however, if you’re wanting great power on a smaller budget, go with the stang(or any other american for the matter). Imports are fast, but they’re just way to expensive to upgrade for my taste. Plus… who cant love the sound of a good ole american V8?!?!

Check it out, I have a 19578 cubic inch big block, I have a whipple supercharger at 9586 psi, my big block makes more power than god! on day 1 God created the V8!!! no little 4 banger can make 7500hp like a V8. my fully built Camaro;mustang;firebird can beat any stock japanese crap. Supras are a lot better than Mustangs. First, there are more women driving Mustangs than Supras, Second, Mustangs are everywhere, I mean honestly how often do you see a person driving a Mustang compared to a Supra, Third, the only variation of a Ford Mustang that stands a chance against a Twin Turbo Supra would be the Ford/Shellby GT500 Mustang but American car companies as well as the people are to lazy to learn how to drive a manual vehicle so a majority of any Ford Mustangs (GT500’s) are ‘automatic bitch-mobiles’. I respect anyone that drives a manual because they know how to actually race and with automatics, your car does not want to shift when you want it to (I.E. 6000-8000 RPMs). Any mkIV Supra could beat any Mustang as long as the Supra driver isnt completely retarded (there are some that think its like Fast and the Furious but they should just kill themselves). In the very end, it depends on whos driving it (not some retarded ricer), how much Horsepower and Torque its pushing, Manual (yes) or Automatic (NO), Because even though i drive a Toyota Supra, I know that there are some people that know how to build cars right (engine) and can set good times in a street race (Drag Strips and Closed Courses are where all the pussy drivers go because they’re afraid of cops). Personally I think the top 5 cars of all time are; 1: MkIV Toyota Supra; 2: Ford/Shellby GT500 Mustang; 3: Nissan Skyline R34 (Japanese version because United States made them cut a lot of power); 4: Mazda (foreign division of Ford) Rx-7 (even though Rotary engines aren’t very reliable); 5: Porshe Cararra GT (if you suck at being a mechanic and are very rich). There are No Chevrolet’s (never made a good car, ever), Mitsubishi’s (Straight women car company), Or Honda’s (the douchebags that own them think they are so much faster than any car, they weigh less so they might gain some more momentum but any other car will pass it because Honda’s are Front-wheel drive and have low-end torque). Supra’s need a TT (Twin Turbo for the retards that dont know what it means)to succeed and Mustangs need the V-8 engine to pull ahead. if both cars were to have an Inline or V-6 (V-8’s and Inline 8’s are a little big for the Supra; Inline means the cylinders are in a row) the Mustang, honestly, would be faster because it is lighter than a Supra. But with Supras you can take 55 Mph turns perfectly fine and Mustangs it feels like you are going to tip over.

Oh, by the way anyone that thinks Nitrous will mak your car go from 60-120 instantly should just go kill themselves because yes Nos does help you go faster (raises RPM’s faster-barely any though) but it is expensive for doing next to nothing. And anyone that spends more money on body modifications than engine work can go join them. An Exhaust tip, big-ass spoiler, bumpers, and 24″ rims(you are not black and are probably a ‘wanna-be black’ redneck piece of shit) wont make your car do any better in speed or handling

supras are mustang killers they have forged bottom ends stock i have a hks t51r spl turbo set up on pushing 865whp and when i go out to the races muscle guys are even to scared to look at me specaily mustangs lol and who cares about racing stock cars its all about modifying and tunning supras way more potential

I’m a 99 supercharged GT owner and I give the supra big props the cars fast hands down I had to put 7grand in my gt to be in it’s league that’s the difference in my book guys sure the supra is fast but not as avaliable to the most of us. The mustang on the other hand is and can be made faster at a far less of a price then the supra is whole so all the trash talk is bullsh,, I’ve smashed plenty old school supras when stock but had to supercharge my stang for the supra beast.both cars are impressive in my eyes and the most impressive is how well the 4.6 mod motor reacts to boost it loves it
